I grew up in American Fork, Utah.
One of my favorite childhood memories is going to BYU football games with my dad and brother.
I have always loved baseball and have played in amateur adult baseball leagues for the past 10 years.
I have loved drawing as long as I can remember.
Traditional architecture is my biggest inspiration. To me, the craftsmanship and culture found in traditional architecture is what is truly beautiful and I try to convey that as closely as I can in my renderings.
I learned how to oil paint during my freshman year at Utah Valley University and started oil painting temples for my sisters as Christmas gifts. This eventually became a hobby and led me to an interest in architecture. I went to the classical architecture program at the University of Notre Dame where I fell in love with the hand drafted, watercolor rendered architectural drawings we learned how to do there.
An aspect of the gospel that has influenced my work has been family history work and temple ordinances. I believe that by rendering traditional temples, churches, and tabernacles I am gaining an appreciation for and connecting to our ancestors who designed, crafted, and built these heirlooms. I feel like I am passing on the legacy they left for us when I do these renderings and by practicing traditional architecture in general. To me, this is so closely linked to the way that we are connected to our ancestors through sealings in the temple itself.
I hope to portray how much I love traditional architecture and I hope to instill that appreciation into others. There is a minor renaissance in the world right now inspired by classical architecture to make our built environment beautiful again and I’m proud to be a part of that movement and hope to bring it to other people’s attention.
This rendering of the side elevation of the Salt Lake Temple is the piece I’m most proud of. It is a culmination of a greater than usual investment of time and effort as well as the needed years of experience in my craft.
I am working on a book that will feature all the architectural drawings I have done of traditional temples, tabernacles, and church buildings. Many of the drawings are of buildings that sadly were torn down in the 60s and 70s and have been carefully constructed from historical photos. I hope to document the architectural character of our traditional buildings as a tool for fellow temple architects to use in their precedent studies and as a way for others to gain appreciation for the beauty of traditional architecture.
Don’t think you can be your best on your own. Seek out any practical art training you can receive. You can only reach your full potential when you have a well of knowledge and skills to draw from.
I was an extra in a Book of Mormon Video! Which the filming of course was scheduled for right after my parents planned the family photoshoot.
“I love this piece so much. It looks like an abstract of the Lord Jesus Christ but if you look at it long enough, which you will, facial features will start to appear. [It makes] my soul happy. So glad I purchased it. J. Kirk Richards is by far my favorite religious artist.” -Customer Review
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. - Romans 14:11
Limited Edition Signed Prints of this piece are available here.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelations 2:20
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).
I grew up in Provo, Utah.
I spent a lot of time climbing trees, riding my bike and hiking in the foothills of Provo alone and with my friends. There were big rocks on the hills that I would love to go and sit on and just look at the view and think. I can also remember one summer night when we were playing outside in the rain and lightning struck and the thunder was so close and loud it made our hair stand on end! Another special memory is of my mother reading to me for hours and hours until she would fall asleep. We would spend this time together reading even until I was a teenager.
I love hiking, playing pickleball and baking.
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love art. I have many little sketches my mom saved through the years. My favorite thing to draw when I was 5 was the “Y” mountain and princesses with those old fashioned cone hats! I studied Industrial Design (product design) at BYU and that program taught me the basics of composition and graphic design and also allowed me to fine tune my sketching abilities.
Children’s literature was a huge inspiration and I love the illustrator, Carson Ellis. I was also introduced to folk art when we lived in Poland. My parents, Mary and Walter Whipple opened the Poland, Warsaw mission when I was 7 years old and we lived there for three years. My dad collected Polish folk art which consisted of weavings, wooden sculpture, glass paintings and paper cut art. I was surrounded by the most authentic art all throughout my youth, most of it religious.
My illustrative work started out clean and crisp, but I’m headed in a more loose and free direction utilizing a more painterly style.
The beauty of the earth, which I believe was created divinely, influences most of my art. I am fascinated by plants, animals, geological features and the sky. The Gospel of Jesus Christ teaches hope and compassion and I strive to integrate those messages into my work as well.
I hope that my art sparks feelings of hope, joy and peace.
The most difficult piece I created was the “Who is He” portrait of Christ. I don’t usually use a lot of lettering in my art and lettering all of the phrases and passages of scripture by hand was intense. I created that piece because I wanted an unconventional portrait of Christ in my own home.
I hope my work keeps the viewer engaged and curious. One of the best compliments I’ve ever received was when a child stood still for a while and just looked intently at my “Nature is the Art of God” piece that was hung in my home.

This piece, called “We’ll Ascend Together” is based on the Quaker Proverb, “You’ll lift me and I’ll lift thee, and we’ll ascend together.”
When Elisabeth heard that quote it left an impression and made her think of families and generations working together to navigate this life. She leans on what her parents taught her, which is what their parents had taught them.

Contemporary Christian artist, J. Kirk Richards, is known for his accomplishments as a painter of Judeo-Christian subject matter. While not all of his work is overtly religious, the majority of his themes stem from spiritual ideas and narratives. His paintings exhibit a love for the human figure, use of symbolism, and an emphasis on lyric composition.
Kirk Richards' art takes on a reverent tone, depicting modern, but many scenes of Christ. Of his work he said: In my ongoing efforts to know and to depict Christ, I have moved away from the need to envision every detail. A broad idea and a feeling move me forward. Though I “see through a glass, darkly,” I hold on with faith and hope, to promises of redemption now and in the eternities. - J. Kirk Richards
Triumphal Entry by J. Kirk Richards is not only based on the description found in the Gospel of Matthew, verse 21, but the artist's personal 2012 Palm Sunday visit to Jerusalem. Those two events, and Kirk's hard work, give us this inspirationally dynamic view of how Christy's entry into Jerusalem may have looked so long ago.
"For she said within herself, if I may but touch his garment, I shall be made whole."
Caitlin Connolly is an artist and writer. Since graduating in 2009 from the University of Utah with a BFA in Painting and Drawing she has passionately pursued and cultivated her creative path. Driven by a curiosity of femininity, her work explores the deficit of the divine feminine and paradoxical themes of duality.
In her signature style, this image from Caitlin Connolly depicts the woman who touched the garment of Christ, however the crowd is gone and the focus is solely on the two figures. The tender expression of love from Christ towards this woman will remind those who view this piece not only of the courage and faith of this inspiring woman, but also of the love Christ has for each one of us.

Plants plants plants. Does it feel like everyone is talking about plants these days? Well, there’s a reason for that. In addition to looking incredibly beautiful in any space, (seriously, the versatility of plants is wonderful! Put them in your bedroom, living room, office, bathroom! You name it! There are no limits.) plants also have incredible benefits that will make you feel better and work better while looking great. Plants are basically the superheroes of home decor.
]]>According to an article from WebMD, some of those benefits include relief from allergy symptoms, improved mood, cleaner air, better sleep, stress relief, and increased focus. Take a look at some of these benefits and start making plans to add more plants to your spaces! Already have a few at home? Been called a ‘plant lady’ before? Don’t worry. The truth is, you can never have too many plants at home!
Textured leaves make plants great dust catchers. Rooms that have plants are known to have less dust and mold around. Get relief from allergies by adding a few more potted plants around the rooms you spend more time in. Chinese evergreen, the peace lily, and violets are all especially good at catching dust.
Plants and flowers are the perfect pick-me-up for any bad mood. According to WebMD, “Employees who work in offices with plants tend to feel better about their jobs, worry less, and take fewer sick days.” So there it is. Build up your plant collection for your home and office space for less worry and better overall health.
Even though you can’t see them, many of our indoor items are actually giving off volatile organic compounds, known as VOCs. Carpet, paint, cleaning products and printers are some of the guilty spreaders of VOCs. Luckily, plants are to the rescue. Plants in these spaces will soak up the VOCs. Just one more reason you need more plants in your life.
Since plants increase oxygen flow, adding a few pots in your bedroom can help you improve sleep at night. According to WebMD, “Plants take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. It’s how they turn sunlight into food, a process called photosynthesis. Some, like gerbera daisies, keep giving off oxygen even after the sun goes down. Put a few cheerful pots in your bedroom and the extra oxygen may help you sleep more soundly.”
Day to day responsibilities can turn into stress when the to-do list adds up. Amidst busy schedules and projects, sometimes you just need to power through the list. But a plant in your work spaces or home can help you keep calm while you handle the stress of life. WebMD says, “Several studies have measured people’s levels of blood pressure, heart rate, and the stress hormone cortisol while they handled a tough task or were under mental stress. Being around plants has a calming effect on people.”
Ever find it hard to focus on work? Ever find your mind wandering when you’re working on a project? Plants can help! According to WebMD, “Students in classrooms with three potted plants performed better on math, spelling, reading, and science tests than kids in classrooms without any greens. Bring home a golden pothos or a bamboo palm and you just might clear that to-do list.”
Did we convince you yet? Hopefully we’ve inspired you to start your plant collection or add to your existing one. Add a little style to your plant collection with a beautiful and modern planter or vase to brighten your home.

I grew up in Southern California. I had a wonderful childhood! A couple of my best childhood memories include drawing with my sisters and also Christmas time as a family.
My love of art began very young. I loved to draw, paint, color, write and illustrate stories as a young child.
My biggest inspirations are God, my husband Joseph, my family, and Walt Disney.
I have had the privilege to develop several different styles as I have developed as an artist. My work has ranged from fully rendered digital concept art, to a five foot textured wall mural, to 3D animated pieces, to abstract home decor, to illustrations for a published children's book. Depending on the objective of what I am creating, my artistic style can vary greatly.
I believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a message of progress, light, love, and hope. I am influenced by the Gospel of Jesus Christ in everything I create. I hope all of my work conveys the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I hope to implement the skills and abilities that I have acquired as an artist to design and build theme parks and experiences throughout the United States and the world. Theme parks have been a personal source of inspiration for me and I hope to share that joy and inspiration with others through the theme parks and experiences that I create.
A couple hobbies I enjoy in my free time are exercising and exploring.
To any aspiring artists, the message I would like to send is to always continue learning and improving as an artist while being confident and dedicated to your purpose as an artist and what YOU in particular have to create and bring to the world.

I was born in Peru but moved to Connecticut when I was 5. My favorite childhood memories are when my mom let me join her in Young Women activities (she was the YW President and I was probably 8). She taught the other young women fun arts and crafts. I thought I was so cool hanging out with the older girls and of course I loved sharing a common interest with my mom.
As long as I remember I've always loved to make things- painting, coloring, drawing, crafting, sewing, knitting, etc. I think it flourished the most when I was at a low point in my life and I needed something to bring me out of it. That is when I started appreciating it the most. The alchemy of putting pen to paper and letting free my emotions and thoughts out became an amazing outlet for me.
Honestly anything and everything around me serves as inspiration. Whatever my kids or parents ask me to create is a catalyst for my work. I recently visited my grandparents' home and I saw the work and devotion my grandfather (who has whatever is beyond a green thumb) has for his garden. I took pictures of all the plants and flowers he has around his house and plan to make a collection of patterns and illustrations honoring that.
Please don't look back on my work 5 years ago! I started with graphic design and then found my passion in illustration and surface design. I think my style follows whatever stage of life I am in. As my kids get older they inspire me to create art for their stage of life and their interests. Because I like to keep things simple, I try to add tiny details and subtle texture to my work when before it was too simple and flat. I am trying to be brave with new techniques and use of color.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ influences my whole life so it naturally would influence my work. Because I have felt God's hand in my life, my Savior's redemptive love and a myriad of tender mercies, how can I not share that? The Gospel of Jesus Christ is joy, happiness, peace. While it can be somber it can also be joyful and celebratory. Because of the hope and pure joy I feel knowing I am a child of God and that He is very active in my life I want to show it in any art piece I create. I draw with the intention of answering "how can I make this person feel the love of God?"
One goal I have for my work is to have someone look at my work and feel the love of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ for him or her and to feel love for them. I am a visual learner and as one I am sometimes better at pictures than at words. I hope others can feel my love for my Savior and Heavenly Father through my art and be inspired to know them more. Another goal would be seeing one of my pieces hanging in one of our church buildings.
I love reading, trying new foods, knitting, sewing, painting, drawing, playing games with my kids, spending time and traveling with my family. I love to do so many things. I wish I had time to do them all!
Heavenly Father has blessed us all with talents. What do you want to do with yours? What does He want you to do with them? Work alongside Him and He will guide you and give you strength and confidence when you feel like you have nothing to share or give. It won't be easy, you'll hear "no's" and people won't always love what you make. But don't be afraid of your dreams! Because it is important to you, it is important to Heavenly Father.

Bringing new art into your home will add a hopeful spirit to your space. You can use LDS art to display your favorite scripture stories, create a focus on Christ, or remember gospel principles that are especially important to you. Art can be incredibly personal, and displaying your faith through the art you choose will make your home feel personal and uplifting when you walk through your own halls.
While there are so many reasons to add faithful and uplifting Christian artwork to your home, one of the many is that your display of faith can create opportunities to invite more gospel discussions into your home. LDS art can be a wonderful missionary tool when you invite visitors into your home. You may get a chance to answer questions your visitors have about your pieces, and you might get to introduce new ideas and gospel truths to your friends. Showcasing your faith will give you the opportunity to share scripture stories and share your testimony of what your faith means to you. It may give you an opportunity to share experiences that you have had to help grow your own faith.
Do you have any favorite scripture stories? J. Kirk Richards has a myriad of pieces that beautifully depict meaningful scripture stories. Make a statement in your home with a piece from this contemporary, Christian artist.
The resurrected Christ appeared to His disciples on the shore of the Sea of Tiberias (John 21). Three times He asked Peter, “Lovest thou me more than these?” He then told Peter, “Feed my sheep.” This painting depicts the fishermen gathering and tending to their nets, with Christ beckoning to them, asking them the great question of priorities. Gospel service gives us all the opportunity to heed Christ’s injunction—to leave our daily tasks and minister to our brothers and sisters in need.
Christ comforts Mary at the tomb as she mourns the loss of His body. This poignant moment is beautifully captured by the bestselling artist and will add a hopeful spirit to your home.
(11) But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
(12) And seeth two aangels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
(13) And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
(14) And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and asaw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
(15) Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
(16) Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, aMaster.
-John 20: 11-16
Christ returns and His followers bow in His presence in this beautifully composed piece. A stunning statement piece, this work of art from J. Kirk Richards embodies the reverence and peace that comes with our knowledge of The Savior.
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. - Romans 14:11
J. Kirk Richards depicts the pivotal moment of Joseph Smith’s encounter with God, the Father and Jesus Christ in this contemporary depiction of The First Vision.
“It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” -Joseph Smith—History 1:17–20

This canvas giclée print of Reaching was created for the cover of the Reyna I. Aburto Book, Reaching for the Savior. Melissa's simple composition of a hand reaching heavenward gives us an inspiring interpretation of what it means to do our part in coming closer to the Savior.

We hope these tips will help! Good luck on your home design journey!
Spend a little time honing down what styles best reflect your personality. One of the ways to create a cohesive space is to think through your style choices before making any purchases. If you’re feeling unclear about what your style is, spend 10-20 minutes browsing through Pinterest and pin all the home decor posts that catch your eye. Then take a minute to look through what you just choose and find the common style elements. Now you have somewhere to start!
Another to do item before you start spending any money, declutter your space! Take a couple days to clear out and donate or recycle items you just don’t use anymore. Getting rid of unwanted products will help you see your space with a new perspective.
Ok now, before you actually throw out any of the items you just cleared up, see if you can use any of them in a different way or in a new place to give it a new life. An old vase in a different room might look brand new. A piece of art that just wasn’t working in one corner might be perfect for your blank wall.
When it doubt, go neutral on large items like furniture, paint colors, rugs, and bookshelves. Then pepper in your bold choices through throw pillows, decorative pieces, and wall art. These are easier (and less expensive) to switch out as your style evolves. You can layer in beautiful LDS art, for example, that speaks to your faith and matches your aesthetic, but change it up when you want something new.
Find artists that speak to you and start following them on social media accounts or by checking in on their websites. Staying up to date on their current projects will help you find their latest work to bring into your home. Looking for LDS artists that match your style? We have a few ideas. Kate Lee, Melissa Tshikamba, Caitlin Connolly, and Brenda Bird are just a few of the LDS artists we work with. Check our art page for more ideas.
Small items can make a big impact in your home. A colorful vase or a chunky and cozy throw blanket can bring in warmth and personality. And as you work to reflect your faith in your home, look for pieces that integrate both style and function.
Creating a space takes a lot of time! Give yourself grace, and try to be patient. Layering in decor that fits your style means taking the time to find that decor. You may get it at your favorite store, or you might pick up a fun new souvenir on your next vacation. Your needs and your routines will change, which may mean your space needs to change with it. Your style will evolve, and you’ll accumulate new items. Basically, your space will never be ‘finished’ it will always be changing with you.
Finding LDS home decor that complements your personal style is not as challenging as it may seem! We hope these few tips help you get started on decorating your space. Remember to enjoy the journey and don’t be afraid to make mistakes along the way!

Hosting a summer dinner party soon? Gathering with friends and family is one of our favorite things. And hosting in the summer feels especially magical. While all you need for a great dinner party is good food and great company, we’ve thought of a few ideas to help kick your next dinner party up a notch.
]]>Hosting a summer dinner party soon? Gathering with friends and family is one of our favorite things. And hosting in the summer feels especially magical. While all you need for a great dinner party is good food and great company, we’ve thought of a few ideas to help kick your next dinner party up a notch.
Small details can take your summer dinner party to the next level. A current favorite that will be sure to impress your friends: The charcuterie board spread. Here’s the secret. Creating a charcuterie board may sound fancy, but it’s way easier than you think it is. Lay out your favorite crackers, cheese, pretzels, fruits, and other snacks on a large board and put it out ready for your guests as they arrive. That way if the actual dinner isn’t quite ready yet, your guests can start snacking and you won’t need to feel rushed to get everything finished. No frills necessary!
A little decor can go a long way when it comes to setting the atmosphere you want for your summer dinner party. The good news is you don’t need a lot of decor to set the mood for your dinner. Find a few items that will do all the work for you. Candlesticks burning bright will elevate any scene. Plus, they make an outdoor summer night feel so magical. Flowers brighten up any room and instantly bring a healthy dose of cheer to your party. A table runner will create a classy look that will make you seem a lot more put together than you feel.
We would never suggest that you need a perfectly clean and tidy home before inviting guests into your home. The truth is, nobody lives in a perfectly clean home all the time, and your friends will still love you and have a great time at your summer dinner party even with a few dirty dishes in the sink, papers stacked on the counter, or toys left out on the floor.
If you’re looking for a quick way to clear a bit of clutter without much effort, invest in a few beautiful containers that make it easy to clean up those odds and ends everyone has in their kitchen.
Set up a space where guests will feel welcomed and want to be. Creating a cozy atmosphere will help your dinner party guests feel at home. Comfortable pillows, cozy throw blankets, and a cheerful welcome mat are just a few ideas to layer more comfort into your home.

Brenda Bird is an illustrator, graphic and surface pattern designer based in Mooresville, North Carolina.
After graduating from Brigham Young University in 2008 with a B.S. in Psychology and the subsequent birth of her first child, Brenda once again fell in love with art. Ever learning, over the years she has fine tuned her craft in graphic design and illustration.
Introducing For Thee by Brenda Bird: Inspired by a dear friend's devotion to her garden (home, family, religion) and the detailed care she gives for each.
""Peace be unto you." Christ said this to His apostles after to soothe their fears after His resurrection. They needed the peace that only He can give. I know that when I have worries about my children, family or personal struggles He is there waiting for me to come to Him and partake of the peace." - Brenda Bird
Be reminded of the peace that comes with knowing the Savior, and trusting in him. Hang this colorful and vibrant new piece on the blank wall in your home to instantly brighten your space.
I'm Jessica S. Beach from Arizona. My work is inspired by my faith and the small and simple beauties of the earth and of people. Through digital illustration I am focused on inspiring hope and capturing the important things of life that at times seem to be invisible. There's a lot of beauty that is overlooked, and I try to bring those beauties to light.
"And so great were the blessings of the Lord upon us, that while we did live upon raw meat in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck for their children, and were strong, yea, even like unto the men; and they began to bear their jouneyings without murmurings."
1 Nephi 17:2
He’s the Creator of worlds and yet He reassures us about the fall of one sparrow and that the very hairs of our heads are numbered. All things are numbered by Him, “for they are [His] and [He] knows them.” Christ said, “I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.” What more could reassure us of the Lord’s love?
A piece inspired by Neal A Maxwell's April 1976 message, "Jesus of Nazareth, Savior and King."
"His relentless receptiveness exceeds my recurring wrongs."
"I thank him for his marvelous management of time, for never misusing a moment, including the moments of mediation. Even his seconds showed his stewardship."
As Christ rode a donkey into Jerusalem, I can't help but think of the children who might have been in the multitude that "spread their garments" upon the ground, "strawed" the way with palm branches for the Lord, and cried "Hosanna." When the city was "moved" and asked the multitude who it was that rode the donkey, I bet there were children and a special donkey who knew.
Matthew 21: 1-11
There's a child in me still, and she is such easy friends with the Messiah. If I could just get my adult self to fall into such ease. - Jessica Sarah Beach
"Behold, my arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive" (3 Nephi 9:14).
"Come now, let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, the shall be as wool."
"If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world."
C.S. Lewis

]]>Caitlin Connolly is an artist and a writer who currently lives in Provo, Utah with her husband and two sons. Since graduating in 2009 from the University of Utah with a BFA in Painting and Drawing she has passionately pursued and cultivated her creative path. Driven by a curiosity of femininity, her work explores the deficit of the divine feminine and paradoxical themes of duality.
“I like to think of myself as a seeker,” Connolly said in a special segment for BYUtv. “As somebody who is just looking for more.”
Watch the entire segment HERE.
In the interview, Connolly describes her affinity for using a triangle shape in many of her characterizations of women in her work.
“I like shapes,” Connolly said in the video. I’m like a 35-year-old three-year-old.”
She finds a lot of symbolism and meaning from the triangle shape.
“The bottom part of the triangle is this solid grounding aspect,” Connolly continued. “There’s one side of it that sits very firmly on the ground. Yet there’s still one angle of it that points towards the sky. I like to think about growth. If the lines keep expanding, then it does have this regenerative, ancestral experience to it.”
Connolly’s art is often a reflection of her personal life. Her seven-year struggle with infertility informed the subject matter of many of her works of art. In article for Deseret News, Connolly said:
“A lot of my paintings looked at the joy of motherhood, the struggle with motherhood, and I think that was a lot of me coming to terms with, ‘What would this be like if this was my life? What would it be like to have kids?’ ” Connolly recalls.
She goes on to add:
“One thing I have learned through exploring themes of womanhood and motherhood is that having children or not having children is such a central and emotional journey for women,” Connolly says. “Some women have children when they don’t want to, some women want to have children and they can’t, some women lose their children, some women have children and don’t like being mothers, some women love being mothers — it’s such a personal and unique experience.
“I feel very grateful for my experience with infertility and with fertility. My chapter of infertility was both difficult and very refining, and it prepared me for motherhood in a way that was very important and necessary for me.”
In conclusion, Connolly said:
“I've also learned that mortality is difficult. My painting process reflects that experience. I work in a very subtractive and additive process. I build things up with paint and then I sand them down. I will spend hours and hours on a painting only to take it into my woodshop days or months later and sand it down (parts or the whole) to begin again. And it is this play, between the building and the removing of what isn't working, that produces my favorite paintings. It is a very symbolic and healing process for me on a personal level and reminds me that it is OK that I am a work in progress. I need experiences that sand me down and refine me, and I will have other experiences that build me back up, and I know that over time I am progressing and that is good.”

]]>New year, new organization goals. While decluttering and re-organizing your home may feel like a daunting task, the key is to start small with little changes to collect pesky clutter in problem areas of your home. Small changes can lead to big solutions.
]]>New year, new organization goals. While decluttering and re-organizing your home may feel like a daunting task, the key is to start small with little changes to collect pesky clutter in problem areas of your home. Small changes can lead to big solutions.
One problem area that tends to collect knick knacks, keys, discarded clothing, and other miscellaneous items is the entryway. Add a small tray to an entry table to collect keys, coins, and small pieces that would otherwise look like clutter. These cute trays can pull double duty in the kitchen and serve as a tray for a plate of cookies or any other goodie you want to serve at your next gathering.
Another entryway trick, snug-fitting wooden lids on these cute canisters mean they act as a hiding spot for cotton swabs, rubber bands, paper clips, or hidden treasures you want out of sight of small hands. These canisters are proof that organizations can also be cute and stylish.
Keeping clothes off the bedroom floor doesn’t need to be a hassle. A large (trust us, you want the large size)hamper will hide the surprisingly high mountain of clothes that can accumulate in just a week.
Lots of kids’ toys all over the living room floor? Use this basket to hide and store stacks and stacks of legos, dress up clothes, musical instruments, and anything else you can think of. Getting the clutter off of the floor and organized into one cute basket with the strength to manage whatever you throw at it will be an instant refresh to your room. Plus, an inspiring quote about working hard from President Hinckly will motivate you and boost your mood as a bonus.
This extra large pouf can handle just about anything you might throw at it. Need a bench, ottoman, coffee table, mini-sofa, chaise lounge, or even a game table? That’s right, this pouf can do it all. Having such a proficient multi-purpose furniture item will help keep the total number of bulkier items to a minimum in your spaces.
Lastly, we suggest adding an inspiring quote or uplifting art piece to remind you that your home can be a refuge. Let’s be honest, houses that don’t live on Pinterest are hardly ever truly organized and clutter free. This is a work in progress, so give yourself grace and start small. These lovely little touches will keep eyes centered on Christ and away from dusty corners. These inspiring frames are subtle enough to complement any home but stylish enough to make an impact.

Inspiring wall art and decor pieces will remind you of your faith, cheer you up on bad day, and inspire you every day. The perfect gift for your friends and loved ones to feel your love and support for them.
Make your gatherings intentional and uplifting. Little touches can make such a large impact, and these meaningful adornments from The Gathering Collection are sure to impress.
Any homebodys on your list this year? The best gifts are the ones your friends and loved ones will want to use all year long. And these cozy accent pieces are the perfect thing. These soft and comfortable pillows and blankets will make staying in so much more appealing that going out.
Start styling your bookshelf with a clean slate. If you currently have books or decorations on your shelves, take everything off so you can better visualize what you want your space to look like. You may think it will be easier just to rearrange existing pieces, but starting with a blank space will inspire new ideas you may not have thought of before.
Once you’ve moved everything off it will be easier to see what you have to work with. You might find new inspiration for your old items, or realize you’re missing a great piece of art. Take some inventory and decide what you may want to add to your home.
Start decorating with the largest items that you have. Bigger books, baskets, frames, and pictures that are going to take up the most visual space on your shelves. Starting with these items will give you a good foundation for layering in items of different heights, sizes, and weights to create a cohesive look. Plus it will help you realize what holes you have that you may need to fill in later with plants, new artwork, or other small pieces that you can borrow from other areas of the house.
Put those larger, bulkier items on your lowest shelves to avoid a clunkier look on middle and top shelves. This is a great place for baskets or bins that can cleverly hide storage items you don’t want on display.
Once the initial layer of larger items are in place, layer in smaller items of different heights, depths and weights to create some visual interest. This is the place to add those interesting bookends you bought on vacation, a print from your favorite artists, a small canvas wrap, or any other items or books that bring you joy to see in your home. When it comes to styling a bookshelf, a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors are going to add depth and dimension to your space.
Artwork creates interest, adds color, and shows your personality. In our opinion, adding artwork is one of the best ways to make your space truly feel like home. While fine art gets the reputation for being expensive and out of reach for many, the truth is you don’t need to buy expensive art to make your home feel special. Curate unique pieces that speak to you over time, and you’ll always have a collection of art that you love. Small prints can make a big impact in your home.
Greenery makes such a difference in any space. Add plants and flowers to your shelf to really give it an upgrade. Small plants, flowers in a beautiful vase, and even fake plants (we won’t tell) add life to your home. These beauties will invigorate your space. The best thing about plants? You really can’t have too many. Whether you’re a one or two plant person or have a full blown plant obsession, added foliage will look fantastic in every area of your home.
Remember that this is your home, and it does not belong to your neighbor down the street or even the DIYer you love to follow on Instagram. Make this your space by personalizing your bookshelves with items that you love. Your favorite book? Add it. An art print that you saw and couldn’t live without? You better believe it belongs there. Anything that makes you happy can go up. These rules about styling your shelves? These are just ideas to help. The important part is that you feel good in the space you live in. So remember that the pieces you put up on your bookshelves aren’t just there to look good, they need to make you happy too.
If you’re anything like us, you lean towards a neutral and safe zone in a lot of your decorating. We get it! Making new decisions or going with bolder options can be daunting, and it can be scary! Decorating bookshelves is a great time to try something bold and new because it can always be taken down or switched out if you change your mind.

]]>The new trio of matte black candlestick holders from the Gathering Collection may, in fact, look fantastic as a centerpiece or statement piece on your bookshelves, but the deeper meaning behind these new candlesticks is what makes them truly special and unique.
Part of the collection designed by Emily Belle Freeman, Jessica Kettle, and Katie Hughes, this particular selection was inspired by a moment witnessed by Emily while she was traveling in Jerusalem some years ago.
“When I was in Jerusalem, several years ago, I had the opportunity to watch a mother light the Sabbath candles eighteen minutes before sundown on Sabbath eve,” Emily explains.
“As I learned more about this I realized that there are two candles that are lit. One to keep, and one to remember the Sabbath. If you watch the mother closely you’ll watch her draw the light of those candles in--an invitation to rest.
“When we were creating the product for this line, we talked about having Sabbath candles as part of what we wanted you to be able to experience in your home.
“There are three candles that represent the important parts of the Sabbath Day. To Rest. To Keep. And to Remember.” Use these three candlestick holders in your home as a reminder both on the Sabbath day and throughout your week of the reason why we hold the Sabbath as such a sacred day.

Grant Romney Clawson, Walking on Water
In the right hand corner of the art where you typically find an artist's signature, you’ll instead see two artists' names listed. When added to a piece of artwork, it means the first artist listed painted their version “after” the original artist. In this case, Grant Romney Clawson recreated the work done by Julius Von Klever. Why would an artist do this? Often an artist will do this as a tribute, or at times because the original has been lost to the public, which is the case here.
It is, from what we can tell, the only religious work Julius Von Klever ever created, and one of his best. The original was traced to when and where it sold, but the trail runs cold after that. Rather than continuing to reproduce poor reproductions, Grant brought back details lost through the years with his amazing skills, and breathed new life into the classic work.

Of this painting, Brian wrote "...many unseen forces are interested in you, love you, and work to influence matters for your profound benefit. Most of what we all do is resist it, misinterpret it, or mess it up, but my experience indicates that these unseen efforts persist impossibly. I thank God for that."

Redecorating an entire house is a daunting task for anyone who isn’t a full-time interior designer. And for those of us with work, family, school, and other responsibilities, it just isn't feasible in a short period of time. So the key is to break up the project into smaller and smaller sections. Then, break it up again. Start with one wall in your home. Or maybe a forgotten corner that needs a little life. Redecorate a bookshelf that you’ve neglected. Any of these small spaces are a great place to start. Once you’ve tackled one area of your house and felt the results of a refresh, you’ll be motivated and excited to take on another. Perhaps your next step is to consider entire room redecoration. Remember, there’s no timeline or rules when it comes to when or how often to spruce up your space.
D&C 124:23 sums up what we hope our homes can be. Printed on canvas and wrapped on a wooden frame this scripture easily stands on a shelf, piano or table top.
This ceramic vase works well in a group or by itself. Perfect for a single flower to brighten up a small space.
Once you’ve identified the space you want to update, start looking for inspiration to guide you as you redecorate your home. This can be anything that sparks your interest. A piece of fine art that you love, a paint color that you can’t get out of your head, a piece of furniture that just speaks to your soul. We get it! Look in magazines, online, local stores, and anywhere else inspiration strikes.

And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. - Luke 9:11
A poignant message of hope and healing from popular artist J. Kirk Richards.
Take those inspiration photos and collect them somewhere to create a mood board for your room redecoration. This is how you can pull together all the things that you love, then really narrow down the colors, styles, and patterns that come back time and time again. A mood board will help you be intentional about your space.
Name them one by one! A unique and stylish way to incorporate messages of faith throughout your home. This pillow is as uplifting as it is comfy.
This color-blocked throw will quickly become your favorite way to gather on rainy spring days or snuggling tiny feet. This throw is soft, really soft, with a stunning earthy color combination. Our favorite detail: the leather gather tag.
Now that you’ve got your mood board and have honed in to the style, colors, imagery or other inspiration that you truly love, give yourself permission to try something other than another neutral. Try a paint color that feels a little bold, get the bigger art piece and really make a statement, or even just rearrange your furniture in a new way. Home decor and redecoration is all about expressing your personality, and you can always change it! So take a risk and get out of your comfort zone.

If you love the trends, then sure, jump on that bandwagon. Don’t worry about doing something to redecorate just because you saw it on Instagram. Home decor is all about creating a haven for YOU, not for anybody else. Trends come and go, so make sure that your style is reflective of what you truly love.

Home shows, magazines, and Pinterest are great places to turn for inspiration when it comes to room redecoration or updating a space in your home, but none of these sources have the personal touch that will make your home feel like yours. So while you’re planning your decor, be sure to add in your personal touches. A piece of art that reflects your faith and your values, a bookcase of your favorite classics, a memento from a cherished vacation, and anything else that brings you joy.

]]>Style bookshelves in your home to add personality and make a statement. Decorate with pieces that are meaningful to you, that make you smile when you look at them, or that remind you of your loved ones. And remember, curating those perfect pieces doesn’t happen after just one trip to the store. It takes time to gather the decor that will find a place in your home. Maybe bring an art piece home from a favorite vacation, or a unique decorative bowl from your favorite antique store. Be patient with yourself, with your home, and with your style.
We get it: you want your house to look beautiful, and knowing how to style bookshelves can play a big part in the overall feel of your home. You may be wondering: How do you make a bookshelf look nice? How do I style a bookcase without books? Try these tips, then change it up! Homes are living, breathing, and evolving just like you. They ebb and flow. So don’t be afraid to try new things, and don’t be afraid to change when the time is right!
First we recommend removing all your existing books and decor from your shelves so you can start with a blank space. Give your eye the opportunity to see all the options and you may come up with an idea that you hadn’t thought of before. Once you remove everything from your shelves, start loading back up by placing your largest pieces of home decor first. From there, you can fill in the gaps with great little details.
As you add in new pieces, try to layer and include objects of different heights. In terms of how to style bookshelves, this is an easy way to give your shelves some visual interest and escape the monotony of everything lined up at the same height. While you’re at it, mix up your shapes too. Include a circular decorative bowl in addition to the more common rectangular books and picture frames.
As you add in your books and other shelf decor, remember to make this unique, special, and personal to you! Add photos from your favorite vacation spot. Display quirky momentos and childhood memories. These little details will come and go with time, so don’t be afraid to switch out pieces when you’re feeling like an update, or when you find something new that you love.
A little greenery goes a long way towards making your home a cozy and comfortable place that you’ll want to spend a lot of time in, and is a great way to style built-in bookshelves. Greenery is homey, welcoming, and charming and will immediately enhance your space. Pair your new plant with a cute vase and you’ll love the look you’ve created. Save space on your bookshelf for a small potted plant or a vase of flowers to bring a little extra cheer into your home.
While a great-smelling candle can be a mood booster, candles can also be a beautiful decor piece. Add a candle on top of a stack of books or a larger candle on its own for a statement.
Try something new with the books that you do have on your shelves. Arrange by color. Flip a few on their sides. See what happens. Books of varied shapes and sizes are a great way to display your personality while also acting as a fun visual interest.
Art isn’t just for the walls. Find a cute frame and add in an art print that you love. This is a great way to showcase your personality and make a statement with your decor choices. Great fine art is such a wonderful way to add coziness, charm, and character to your space, and is an easy must when considering how to style bookshelves.
If you tend to go neutral, we get it, we do the same thing. But remember to add in a little color to really create some visual interest and showcase your personality. This can be done with a great art print, a decorative vase, or even a display of your most colorful books.
If, like most of us, your bookshelves are doing double duty as storage units in addition to showing off your prettiest pieces, find ways to store less-than-beautiful items creatively. Large, decorative boxes can hide your collection of mismatched cords, kids’ toys, old magazines, and anything else you don’t want on full display. Store these on the bottom shelves to fit in seamlessly with the rest of your decor. This is a great way to style a bookshelf like a pro.
The great part about home decor and design, you never have to be stuck with something if you change your mind or don’t like the end result. Remember that it’s ok to change your mind and your style evolves. If you’re ever feeling stuck, start with tip number one and take everything off for a blank slate. Sometimes all the same stuff in a new arrangement can be enough to make you happy again. The most important thing is that you feel at home in your space, so don’t worry about comparing your #shelfie to anyone else's.
Sticky notes changed her life. Since popular artist Kate Lee was young, she truly believed that she had little self worth. Her doubt made her feel that she was not worthy of God’s love, and that she didn’t have any talent as an artist. She recounts that ever since she was 10 years old she didn’t believe that God loved her. Kate Lee’s story and inspiring strength can encourage anyone who may feel at times inadequate and unworthy.
]]>After meeting with an inspired stake president, Kate Lee was given a homework assignment to write on sticky notes the truths that she believed about herself. Her notes included statements such as “you’re ugly,” and “you’re not smart enough,” and other negative views that she had. Her stake president got her new, fresh sticky notes and asked her to pray to God to ask Him what He really thought of her. The stake president asked her to write those new truths on the blank sticky notes.
Although she was nervous to complete this assignment, Kate Lee did just that. She prayed to her Heavenly Father and was met with feelings of warmth and calm, confirming to her that God did love her, and that she was worthy and had so many capabilities.
“I feel like my art reflects that new discovery of my relationship with God.” -Kate Lee
In an article with LDSLiving she related her experiences with self doubt and the obstacles that she had to overcome in order to share her art with others saying,
“I had a very hard time believing that what I drew or painted was good enough for anyone. I would hide what I had created because I was embarrassed. It wasn’t until I was willing to be vulnerable that things changed for me. It was baby steps, but every time I found the courage to share my art with someone, the more confidence I found not only in my paintings but in myself. I feel like my paintings and I grew together.”
When asked what advice she would give to others who also struggle to see their worth, Kate Lee said,
“I would say that the first step is to accept yourself for exactly who you are—how you are in that moment—and build on that. Don’t put the “I have to be perfect or good at everything” label on yourself, because you’ll only find disappointment. Not one of us is perfect or is expected to be perfect in this life. This life is for learning, growing, and changing.
Find ways to block out or at least quiet those things that are causing you to question your self-worth. Learn to trust your qualities and abilities. And for sure, stop comparing. You are who you are for an amazing purpose. Find things that make you happy and don’t be ashamed of those things. Being vulnerable can be difficult, but being vulnerable is where growth and change happens. Last but not least, be patient and forgiving toward yourself.”
Kate Lee’s story and inspiring strength can encourage anyone who may feel at times inadequate and unworthy. Her testimony is a reminder that God’s love can lift us during difficult moments. We are so grateful that Kate has shared her story and her art with us.
Kate Lee’s fresh and modern style makes her one of our favorite new LDS artists. Her stunning style makes an impact with minimal brush strokes and is so versatile that it can work as a statement piece in your home or as a decorative accent piece on your bookshelf or smaller wall art. When you have a piece of Kate Lee art in your home, you are giving yourself an opportunity to welcome the spirit into your life and to feel God’s love.
Kate Lee’s style has developed over the years, and her current style was inspired one day by a song she heard. In the same article Lee says,
“One morning while I was getting my boys ready for school, the song “As Sisters in Zion” came on and an image popped into my head. I couldn’t get the boys ready fast enough—I wanted to sit down and draw that idea in that moment so I could paint it. After I had drawn and painted it, I was hooked. It spoke so loudly to me. I felt like I could express what I was feeling inside better with this particular style. My testimony and the emotions I wanted to express were finally being expressed.”
Take a look at these three pieces of Kate Lee art that we love here.
"Atonement" represents that powerful and loving event when the Lord took on all obstacles in our path. In this simple but profound depiction, Kate Lee shares not only her love for the Savior but His love for us all.

"With all the noise happening around us each day it's easy to miss the simple gifts our Father in Heaven and Savior continually put in front of us. It is my hope that we take just a moment from our busy schedules and recognize those simple gifts that better our lives, and strengthen our connection to the heavens." - Kate Lee
