A stunning piece of modern, sacrocubism art by Jorge Cocco

"This is no doubt a beautiful painting. Sometimes I feel I can relate to the apostles of old in some sense. They had worked and struggled all day with nothing to show for. Their boats empty and their strength spent. Nothing to feed their families with. You can get a little of this frustrating feeling by observing the darker, converging foliage around the painting.

But then, there it is the calm Savior, sitting and preparing the fire to cook the fish the disciples had not caught yet. He was in complete control and had every confidence that the fishermen would be up to the task once they follow His directives. The skies open with light blue and green reflections. Hope is in the air as the disciples listen to the stranger on the shore telling them to throw the nets once more. We know the rest of the story.

Why did the Lord allow these fishermen, his beloved friends and apostles to struggle so much and spend all their energy when He could have just given them the fish and anything else they wanted?

We all know the Sunday School answer to this question, but living a similar experience is a personal trial, and each person will react to it differently, some benefiting from it, and some resenting the Deity for the apparent disregard to one's suffering. At the end it all is a matter of faith, isn't?" -Jorge Cocco
